Ayşegül Doğan

Short Bio

Ayşegül Doğan (Istanbul, 1984) studied on the undergraduate film certificate programme at Istanbul’s Boğaziçi University. She went on to complete a postgraduate degree in Film and TV at Istanbul Bilgi University.

She works as a freelance director and keeps writing her first feature-length script.

In addition to being a writer and director, she is an instructor in Bogazici University, giving Film Analysis courses since 2012. She also gives lectures on Film Grammar in a special Atelier in Istanbul.

Berna Sidi Adatoz

Short Bio

While studying Mathematics at BU, she graduated from Istanbul University State Conservatory (IUDK) Department of Piano (2000). She gave many concerts since she was 4, including at the “8th International Concert of Classical Music Featuring Young Soloists” organized by European Broadcasting Union in Valencia, Spain (1991) after ranking first in the elimination throughout Turkey by Turkish Radio and Television. Upon graduating from BU Mathematics ranking first (2001), Berna Sidi Adatoz got her first master’s degree from IUDK Chamber Music Program (2003) and started to teach Music History and Appreciation at Işık University. Her master’s thesis was “The Study of Antonin Dvorak’s Chamber Music with Piano”. Graduating from Chamber Music Program ranking first, she got her second master’s degree from Marmara University (MU) Atatürk Eğitim Mathematics Education (2006), again ranking first, and started to teach Mathematics at Hisar School. During her studies at MU, her article “Investigating Forms of Understandings in the Context of Trigonometry” was published in the Journal of the Korea Society of Mathematical Education Series D Research in Mathematical Education, 13(2), 151-170. Berna Sidi Adatoz has been teaching Music Appreciation at Boğaziçi University since 2013 and Mathematics at Robert College of Istanbul since 2014.

Can Candan

Short Bio

Can Candan has a BA from Hampshire College (USA) in film and video, and a MFA (a terminal degree, comparable to a PhD) from Temple University (USA) in film and media arts. Since 1990, he has taught film courses and workshops in the USA and in Turkey. Before becoming a full-time faculty member at Boğaziçi University in 2007, he was a faculty member, department chair/director of the MA program at Istanbul Bilgi University’s Film and TV department; and taught at Sabancı University. His award-winning documentaries (Boycott Coke/1989; Exodus/1991; DuvarlarMauernWalls/2000; 3 Saat/2008;  Benim Çocuğum/2013) have been screened and distributed internationally. Emine Serdaroğlu

Short Bio

Emine Serdaroğlu studied piano with Ersin Onay, Fuat Türkay and Cana Gürmen. After graduating from Ecole Française d’Istanbul, she continued her piano studies with Prof.Dr. Mark Hansen at Illinois Wesleyan University (BM, magna cum laude, 1990-94,) and with Prof.Dr. William at the University of Texas at Austin (MM, 1994-1996). She participated in master classes with pianists Andrey Diev, Rita Sloan, Lala Margulis, Igor Kipnis and Ratko Delorko. She completed her PhD in Musicology at Mimar Sinan Fine Arts University (2008). She has given several national and international recitals and chamber music concerts. Her research focuses on piano compositions of Turkish composers and their integration in piano education.

Jak Şalom

Short Bio

After studying Economics in Istanbul, he joined the Turkish Cinematheque and worked with Onat Kutlar from 1965 to 1972 as Deputy Director and wrote in the magazine Yeni Sinema. He then left to join the Cinémathèque Française and assisted his founder Henri Langlois for the opening of the World Museum of Cinema.

In 1976 he moved to the National Institute of Oriental Languages and Civilizations and taught Turkish grammar and lexicography in Turkish Studies until 2012. He is the author of a bilingual French-Turkish, Turkish –French dictionary and two educational works on the Turkish language.

At the same time, he produced or managed the production of some 250 stage productions from 1980 to 2013.

He is currently responsible for a course in the sociology of cinema at the Bosphorus University: Cinema and Audience: Sociological debate and directs the program The Cinematheque is alive! 50 years, 50 films, 50 presentations.

Mehmet Emin Adanalı

Short Bio

He received a B.S. in Chemical Engineering from BU and went on to study Finance and International Business in San Francisco obtaining an M.B.A. as a result. He worked in IT & Internet consulting industry through his own firm in and around San Francisco, greater Bay Area as well as Silicon Valley, CA. Since coming home to roost, aside from continuing in that field, he is also teaching comics theory and history at two levels available to undergraduates as well as graduate students as 3-CR courses. He also offers courses and workshops for adults at BUMED and Bilgi-Eğitim in addition to conducting the core faculty member position at The School of Life-İstanbul branch. In addition to all of these, he also offers courses at all levels as scuba instructor and personal life trainer.

Mehmet İnan

Short Bio

Mehmet İnan is currently teaches “Scriptwriting” and “Mythic structure & Storytelling in cinema”. After graduating from Mimar Sinan University, Cinema and Tv Department in 1995, he worked in Tv, advertising and film industries. As a free-lance filmmaker, he directs, produces, and writes advertising films, Tv shows, and short documentaries. He runs his own production company (2006- present).

His teachings include Galatasaray University (2000-2003), Mithat Alam Film Center (2005-present), Bosphorus University (2010-present) and Bilgi University (2013-present).

Onur Karaoğlu

Short Bio

Onur Karaoğlu is a theater director, art manager, teacher and writer.

Born in Istanbul in 1982. Graduated from Boğaziçi University with a BA in Sociology.  Holds an MFA in Theater Directing from Columbia University in the City of New York. He worked with Anne Bogart, SITI Company and Martha Graham Dance Company. He collaborated with Orhan Pamuk in the making of Innocence Of Objects, which won the The Mary Lynn Kotz Award. He currently works as the director of The Museum Of Innocence in Istanbul.

He adopted and directed several Chekhov and Shakespeare productions which appeared off-Broadway and downtown New York theatre spaces. The films that he participated in were shown at Sundance Film Festival, Oberhausen Film Festival, Pompiduo Centre. He teaches at Boğaziçi Univeristy since 2013.

Özgür Çiçek

Short Bio

Özgür Çiçek holds a BA degree in English Language and Literature and an MA degree in Film Studies. She received her PhD from Philosophy, Interpretation and Culture program at Binghamton University, New York, in 2016. Her research interests include national and transnational cinemas, documentary filmmaking, adaptation studies, detective fiction, and science fiction.

Translated ‘The Invisible Actor’ by Oida, published by Bogazici University Press.  Holds workshops on ‘The Character’s Spine’ ‘Sense Memory’ and ‘Directing Actors’ in several universities. Currently a lecturer at Bogazici University holding ‘Literary Character Analysis Through Acting’ class. Actress, Capoeirista and mother.

Rana İren

Short Bio

Rana İren is a musicologist and an economist. After studying Economics at Cambridge University (BACantab 1995, MACantab 1997), she worked in investment banking in London and Istanbul and then at the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP) in Ankara. She eventually found in herself the courage to combine her two main interests (classical music and reading) and undertake graduate studies in Historical Musicology at İTÜ Centre for Advanced Studies in Music (İTÜ MİAM) (MA in Music, 2016). In her musicological studies she enjoys pursuing the Ottomans in Italian vocal music of the early modern period. She is also interested in the relationship between visual arts and classical music, as well as Turquerie/Orientalism in music, both of which she teaches at the Department of Foreign Languages and Literatures at Boğaziçi University since 2017. She is a member of the RILM (Répertoire International de Littérature Musicale) National Committee of Turkey, as well as being the General Secretary of the Istanbul Philharmonic Society.

Şahan Yatarkalkmaz

Short Bio

Şahan Yatarkalkmaz was born in 1986. He graduated from Boğaziçi University in 2008 with degrees in Psychology and English Literature. He earned a Master’s Degree in 2011 from Sabancı University. As of 2012, Şahan Yatarkalkmaz is a PhD candidate in Translation Studies, Yıldız Technical University. He has been conducting courses on histories, theories and philosophies of cinema in Boğaziçi University since 2012. Among his research interests are aesthetics, philosophy of literature and history, postcolonial film theory, and continental philosophy.

Tolga Yalur

Short Bio

Tolga Yalur (Izmir, 1985) has a BS in Economics at ODTU, and an MA in Critical and Cultural Studies at Boğaziçi University. Tolga has written in journals and magazines like cogito and Altyazı, and his first book Hungarian Cinema (Yonetmenlerin Izinde Macar Sineması) was published in 2009. He has been studying in Cultural Studies at GMU.

Zeynep Bilge

Short Bio

Zeynep Bilge studied voice at Istanbul University School of Music between 1991 and 1994. She received her B.A. (1999), and her M.A. degree (2001) in English Language and Literature from Istanbul University. In 2008 she received her PhD degree with her dissertation entitled “An Alternative Mode of Communication: Songs and Singing in Shakespeare’s Tragedies”. In 2012 she conducted a postdoctoral research at Cardiff University on the opera adaptations of Shakespeare’s The Tempest. Working as an assistant professor at Mimar Sinan Fine Arts University, she is currently working on a book project focusing on the literary adaptations in contemporary British opera.

She’s been a member of Istanbul European Choir since 1999, and Rezonans since 2013.

Zeynep Öz

Short Bio

Zeynep Öz is a curator. She co-founded SPOT Projects in Istanbul. She co-curated Aichi Triennale 3 and is currently working on the Sharjah Biennial. She has a BA in Math and Studio Art from Dartmouth College and MA in curatorial studies from Bard College.
